*Mk 9:17-29 Healing of sickness caused by demons. This epilepsy caused by demons. Jesus casts out demon from afflicted child by confronting it as a dumb/mute and deaf spirit. “This kind comes out only by prayer and fasting.” (Some are harder to expel than others, in this case because of the kind of demon and perhaps other times because of the person being a strategic battle ground). Jesus highlights lack of FAITH as the hindrance vs19, and FAITH as the solution vs 22 which is further achieved by prayer and fasting vs 29.

Lk 8:27-33 Jesus asked demon, “What is your name?"  "Legion...Don’t send us to the abyss” the demons plea. One man contained enough demons to send 2000 pigs over a cliff. They like to work in gangs.

Lk 11:14 Healing of sickness caused by demons

Lk 4:39 Here Jesus rebukes a fever. While demons can often be the cause of sickness, we can't be certain this instance was a demon. Either way, we need to apply the consistent exercise of our spiritual senses in every situation we encounter. God uncovers demonic activity at timing of his own choosing. We are in a war. The more battles we win the more we learn to recognize Satan’s tactics.

Lk 13:11-16 Healing of a crippling infirmity/sickness caused by demons. The lady is loosed from a demon on the sabbath.

Lk 22:3-4 Satan entered Judas (not necessarily Satan in person but by his servants)

Baptism

Baptize = Greek word Baptizo, Strong's 907: meaning to dip repeatedly, to immerse, to submerge (of vessels sunk) 2) to cleanse by dipping or submerging, to wash, to make clean with water, to wash one's self, bathe 3) to overwhelm. *Not to be confused with Greek word bapto, Strong's 911. The clearest example that shows the meaning of baptizo is a text from the Greek poet and physician Nicander, who lived about 200 B.C. It is a recipe for making pickles and is helpful because it uses both words. Nicander says that in order to make a pickle, the vegetable should first be 'dipped' (bapto) into boiling water and then 'baptised' (baptizo) in the vinegar solution. Both verbs concern the immersing of vegetables in a solution. But the first is temporary. The second, the act of baptising the vegetable, produces a permanent change. (Adapted from notes in the Net Bible)

1 Pet 3:19-21 Baptism illustrated by Noah’s flood, not only saved but separated from the world

Gen 7, 8 Baptism illustrated by Noah’s flood, not only saved but separated from the world

1 Cor 10:1-2 Baptism illustrated by Israel passing through the Red Sea, not only saved but separated from the world.

Ex 14:15-31 Baptism illustrated by Israel passing through the Red Sea, not only saved but separated from the world

Mk 16:15-16 He who believes AND is baptized will be saved.

Acts 2:38-41 Repent AND be baptized. That same day, 3000 people repented and were baptized.

Acts 8:36-40 What is to hinder my being baptized? Nothing, if you believe and have repented in your heart. Baptized immediately upon repenting. Notice the Ethiopian didn’t say, “Here’s my water bottle…what’s to stop me from being baptized.” Instead as they were driving along the road he said, “Look! There’s some water! What’s to stop me from being baptized.” So the two went down into the water and Philip baptized him.

Rom 6:3-5 In baptism, we die with Christ and are raised from the dead by the same power that resurrected Christ.

Col 2:11-12 God uses baptism to have REAL effect against sin in our lives by the cutting off of the carnal nature.

Acts 8:7, 12 After they had their demons cast out they believed and were baptized immediately

Acts 16:32-33 People baptized same day upon believing

Acts 19:5 People baptized immediately upon hearing and believing

**Mt 28:16-20 Jesus says, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go and make disciples…all nations…baptizing them…teaching them to observe ALL things I’ve commanded you."

A HELPFUL NOTE ABOUT BAPTISM:

Regarding the timing of baptism, we encourage what Jesus and His apostles taught and practiced; Repent and be baptized.” Repentance and baptism are a joined pair, never detached in Scripture to create a Christian test period prior to baptism.

The Greek work baptizo actually means immersion, so the command in English would be more clearly rendered, Repent and be immersed. Why this particular physical action? Because immersion or burial in water, is a perfect visual aid designed by God to mark the salvation event.

Going down under the water is a perfect illustration of a repentant person allowing his old self to die and be buried. Coming up out of the water is a perfect illustration of a person being unburied and resurrected as a new person in Christ! (Rom 6:3-5) What a beautiful illustration of faith, repentance, death of the old self, burial, and new birth, all wrapped together with identification with Christ as He also died, was buried and resurrected to life! This helps reveal why baptism of new converts is meant to follow repentance as soon as practically possible like it does in every instance in Scripture.

Scripture shows that baptism is a pivotal and decisive act, clearly designed and appointed by God to allow us to immediately mark our salvation event—our inner faith and repentance, with an outward sign. Walking the isle to the alter and praying the “prayer of salvation” has too often come to replace the more meaningful outward act that Jesus has given us to mark our salvation event. More than raising a hand or walking to the front in a meeting, immersion is deeply meaningful as a visual aid. As such, it lends strength to our evangelism, and to the new believer, and it actually increases his hope of success from the very beginning. It’s like the first wrung of a ladder or the first rope hold for a mountain climber which helps establish some immediate strength and success.

This is the very advantage Jesus intended spiritual babes to have, so it is important to avoid long delays between salvation and baptism. Removing baptism away from one’s conversion experience, would be like removing that mountain climber's first rope hold, or like taking away that first wrung of a ladder.

Besides supplying a powerful visual aid to salvation, baptism also helps a new believer to immediately solidify the decision of his heart with an outward act of the will…to hammer in God’s signpost if you will. This is often done publicly for greater encouragement to all.

More to the timing of baptism; In Acts, it appears that even those freshly delivered of demons were immediately baptized when they believed in Acts 8:7-12: “For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed...But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.”(KJV)

Baptism is not an optional extra that follows salvation. It’s a command just like repent is a command. Acts 2:38-41 tells us to repent and be baptized. The two are a pair. The clear pattern all through Scripture is 1) believe/repent and 2) be baptized. In effect, baptism is the first step of obedience to Christ after repentance. My refusing to obey this command knowingly would likely reveal something about my repentance. On the other hand, since baptism is an outward act of obedience, it not only illustrates repentance, it demonstrates repentance!

To use an imperfect analogy, consider a wedding. At the ceremony, the couple is truly married, but later, the physical act of marriage follows. This consummation is a physical sign of what was already done in their heart and soul, much as baptism is a physical sign of what has already happened in a person’s heart and soul.

Likewise, a person who has believed and repented but not been baptized, has already been saved (as was the thief who was saved while on the cross), and will naturally want to follow Jesus' command to be baptized to mark the occasion with God’s physical sign.

Back to the analogy, he who is able, but refuses sexual union after his marriage ceremony, shows his promise of marriage to be disingenuous. Likewise, he who would knowingly refuse to be baptized after repenting to follow Jesus, shows his repentance to be lacking. Inner faith without resulting works is dead James 2:14-26.

Of course, this is different from one who is willing, but pinned to a cross with no option for baptism. Many lesser circumstances like a lack of enough water for immersion can cause legitimate delays. This was the consideration of the Ethiopian while driving down the road in Acts 8:36-40. He obviously understood his water bottle didn't hold enough water for immersion, but when sufficient water was available at the side of the road, he stopped the cart and Philip baptized him.

Other legitimate delays might include delays for travel, family arrangements, juveniles to come of age, or time to achieve a corrected understanding of baptism prior to re-baptism as we see in Acts 19:1-5 where the Ephesians were re-baptized.

In summary, baptism (a.k.a. immersion) marks the salvation event and should follow repentance as soon as practically possible, same as it does in every instance in Scripture.

Our encouragement to everyone is this. Let’s obey Jesus more and more closely as He gives us more and more revelation to do so, just as the Ephesians did when their new knowledge prompted them to be re-baptized.

About Demons Influencing Christians

Eph 4:26-27 Don’t give the devil a foothold. Anger is one way to do so, so don’t let the sun go down on your anger.

1 Cor 15:54 Our mortal has not yet put on immortality nor our corruptible the incorruptible, thus the possibility of sinning and of demonic oppression is real. A demon can go anywhere sin and disease can go.

2 Sam 11 David sinned. Then he repented and asked God not to take the Holy Spirit from him…He had lost his joy but not the Holy Spirit Psalm 51. (The Holy Spirit can and does infill unclean vessels. David said, “My sin is ever before me.” Our only solution is confession and repentance.

1 Pet 5:5-6 God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. We may have to choose between dignity and deliverance.

Eph 4:24 Let the new man come to life in Christ in complete spiritual health who is then very strong against demonic attacks but NOT immune to them as if the attacks can’t happen. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.

Jn 21:15-17 If we have opened the door to a demon by saying the wrong thing, we need to cancel the wrong thing by saying the right thing. Interesting how Peter denied Jesus three times but after the resurrection, Jesus led him to unsay his denial by affirming his love of Jesus three times.

Mk 16:9 Mary Magdalene was the FIRST human witness of Jesus’ resurrection…this was the SAME LADY from whom 7 demons were cast out by Jesus! Her humility was well worth it!

Mt 12:43-45 An expelled demon goes to arid places and then returns to its house swept and EMPTY. Swept is good. Empty is not. People need Christ’s spirit in them! An Evil spirit will return bringing 7 others more wicked than itself. (Another point; If we sweep our physical house without embarrassment, we ought to sweep our spiritual house even more readily without embarrassment.)

Lk 4:13 The devil waits for opportune times to tempt us…obviously looking for a time we might be weak. He came to Jesus when He was weak at the end of a 40 day fast. Thankfully Jesus was strong in Spirit even if hungry in body.

Mt 9:36 Normal crowds of people harassed (by demons). Jesus notices what others who are spiritually blind don’t.

*1 Tim 4:1 Some Christians give heed to deceiving doctrines of demons…departing from the faith

1 Jn 4:1-6 Testing spirits...Error, falsehood

Importance of Forgiving Daily, not Just for Deliverance but for Forgiveness and for Prayers to be Heard

Mt 6:12-15 Unforgiveness leaves us without forgiveness from the Father.

Mk 11:25-26 When praying, first forgive all others if you want forgiveness from your Father in heaven

Mt 18:23-35 Delivered to the torturers (demons) if you refuse to forgive from your HEART. (forgive and lay down all resentment, bitterness, hatred)

Eph 4:26-27 Don’t give the devil a foothold. Anger is one way to do so, so don’t let the sun go down on your anger.

2 Cor 2:11 Forgiveness steals an advantage from Satan

Keeping Our Deliverance

Ps 34:1 (Thanking and praising and blessing God creates an atmosphere that repels demons. David knew this in his difficulty)

Lev 11:44 Be holy as I’m holy

*1 Pet 5:8-9 Admonition to Christians…be self-controlled, vigilant, resist the devil who

is like a roaring lion seeking to destroy us. (Don’t act as if there is no danger)

Heb 10:14 We are ‘perfected’ past tense, but sanctification is progressive…we ‘are becoming sanctified’

Heb 10:24-25 Fellowship, stirring up love and good works, not forsaking fellowship

Heb 12:1, 4 Sin is a continual life and death struggle…the struggle is a part of life...get rid of that which slows you down in the race.

Mk 7:21-23 Many sins defile us…not just adultery and theft like David was defiled by. (this doesn’t mean we lose the Holy Spirit if we are repenting and walking toward righteousness and God)

*Eph 5:18 Be not drunk with wine but continually filled with the Holy Spirit. (Prince points out that most Christians would agree being drunk is wrong but how many would agree that not being filled with the Holy Spirit is wrong?) Staying filled leaves no room for demonic spirits!

Rom 6:6 Crucify the flesh, no longer slaves to sin p98

Mt 10:36 A man’s foes will be those of his own household...severe such control if necessary.

2 Cor 6:17-18 Be holy/separate as a son or daughter of God…

2 Cor 7:1 “Let us cleanse ourselves…” by confessing, repenting…we are responsible to do our part in the cleansing process. Then with the word us, even the great Apostle Paul included himself as one who still continually needed to be cleansed, yet needing to attain full holiness. In Phil 3:12-15 he says again, “Not that I have already attained…” but pressing toward the goal. This corrects any who twist Scripture suggesting we are able to live in perfect holiness…even saying they have attained this! As much as we ought all to shoot for holiness, and we grow hugely, there will inevitably be a difference between our target and our shot as long as we are on this side of heaven. (5:15 in the audio book)

Lk 6:46 Jesus asks why people call him Lord and not obey him?

2 Cor 7:5 Paul’s struggles with fear…even a great apostle deals with fear.

1 Cor 15:33 Evil company corrupts good habits

Acts 3:21 First deliverance, then restoration

Obadiah 17 Deliverance > holiness > possessions

*Jn 8:31-32 If you abide in my word, you are my disciples indeed and you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. (THIS IS THE CONDITION OF FREEDOM)

*Deut 7:26 Don’t bring an abomination into your house lest you be cursed (eg. Derek Prince's house cleaning dramatically changed the spiritual atmosphere like passing out of twilight into clear light of day)

Acts 19:18-20 Occult scrolls burned

1 Jn 5:18-19 Christ’s people are protected when living in righteousness but a practicer of sin opens the door to Satan’s influence

Ps 32:3 Refusing to confess will eventually bring sickness.

Eph 4:26-27 Don’t give the devil a foothold. Anger is one way to do so, so don’t let the sun go down on your anger.

Lk 4:13 The devil waits for opportune times to tempt us…obviously looking for a time we might be weak. He came to Jesus when He was weak at the end of a 40 day fast. Thankfully Jesus was strong in Spirit even if hungry in body.

Lk 4:1-13 Devil’s temptation of Jesus after His fast

Prov 4:23 Guard Your Heart! (A heart purified by faith is the basic requirement for the baptism of the Holy Spirit.)

Our Authority and Victory In Jesus

*Is 59:19 When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord lifts up a standard against him.

**Joel 2:32 Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord (YHWH/Jesus) shall be delivered/saved/rescued (He calls us and we call Him.)

Lk 4:1, 14 Jesus entered his conflict with Satan ‘filled’ with the Holy Spirit but he came out of it in the ‘power’ of the Holy Spirit. God releases the power of the Holy Spirit through us only in the measure that we are victorious in our conflict with Satan.Spiritual conflict is not the evidence of failure but rather an essential condition for fruitful ministry.

Lk 4:16-21 Jesus quotes Isaiah-The Spirit of the Lord has anointed [selected and empowered/equipped] me to bring Good News to the poor.He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come NLT See also Acts 10:37-38

Lk 13:32 Jesus informs Herod that he will continue to cast out demons and heal people--ministry from now on until his job is finished on the third day

Mt 8:6-13 The spirit realm including the Kingdom of God is organized in levels of authority as is a military. The Centurion knew this and believed Jesus could easily use His authority to have His servants (likely angels) accomplish what He wanted done even at a distance. Knowing what is true, even though invisible, and expecting its reality...is faith.

Mk 6:7-13 Disciples given authority to cast out demons and preach the gospel. This included healing people aside from demons.

***Lk 10:1-20 Disciples reporting back that ‘Even the demons are subject to us in your name.’ “I give you authority to trample over serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy and nothing shall by any means hurt you,” says Jesus

***Mk 16:15-18 Great commission goes international, in my name they shall cast out demons, etc. lay hands on sick and they will get well

***Mt 28:16-20 Jesus said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go and make disciples…all nations…baptizing…teaching them to observe ALL things I’ve commanded you (the first disciples.)

**Heb 2:14-15 Satan HAD the power of death but now Jesus HAS victory over death. (Demons are as powerless against deliverance as they were powerless to stop the resurrection of Jesus Christ of Nazareth!)

**Col 2:14-15 By victoriously nailing our sins to the cross, Jesus has disarmedprincipalities and powers of Satan that oppose us.

*1 Cor 15:57 Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ! ESV

**2 Tim 1:7 God hasn’t given us a spirit of fear/timidity but of love, power, and self-discipline

*2 Cor 10:4-5 Our weapons are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strong holds, arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God…controlling every thought to obey Christ.

1 Cor 11:2-7 To be under authority is to be protected. Not to be, is to be unprotected. Christ is head of the man. Man is the head of the wife.

Gal 2:20 We are crucified with Christ…it’s no longer I that lives but Christ in me.

Eph 1:22-23 Christ is head of the church, his body.

Lk 7:7-10 Centurian with great faith knew about authority. When we are truly submitted under the authority of Jesus, He gives us authority. Living unsubmitted to Him is to lack authority.

Acts 19:11-17 Seven sons of Sceva (who hadn’t submitted to Christ’s authority) try casting out a demon “in the name of the Jesus Paul preaches,” but the demon beats them up. The state of the ministers is much more important than the formula! Also, note Paul’s distance deliverance/healing ministry via handkerchiefs.

Rom 8:28 All things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to his purpose!

**Rom 16:20 The God of peace will crush Satan under your feet.

*Rom 8:37-39 We are more than conquerors…nothing can separate us from the love of God

Prov 26:2  Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow, an undeserved curse will not land on its intended victim.(NLT)

Heb 3:1 Jesus is the high priest of our confession (saying the same as Jesus says)

*Rev 12:10-11 Satan is the accuser is overcome by the blood of the lamb and by our testimony

Gen 15:5 We are like the stars…when all the other lights have gone out, the stars shine brightest, just as we will at the end of the age!

Rom 8:21 Creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God! ESV

Phil 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!

Mk 9:38-42 Someone not part of Jesus’ immediate group of disciples was casting out demons in Jesus name. John was concerned but Jesus wasn’t. “Don’t stop him,” He said. “He who is not against us is for us.” He also said, “ No one who performs a miracle in my name will soon be able to speak evil of me.” This helps put church’s and denomination’s and pope’s lines of authority into a different perspective than some have when they think of being under authority.

*Jn 17:15-22 Jesus prays for our protection from the evil one. Just as Jesus, we are not of this world but we are sent to be in the world to bring truth that results in holiness, united in God, effective in His Kingdom work. We have the same glory the Father gave Jesus. Note the great commission within this prayer.

1 Jn 3:8 Jesus came to destroy the devil’s work. We are to carry out what Jesus started.

1 Cor 2:4 Paul offered the gospel not by clever and persuasive talk but by demonstration of God’s power. That’s why people believed.  Same reason people believed Jesus so widely.

Importance of Walking in Holiness (in Sync with God / Submitted to His Authority)

Proverbs 28:13 Repent! He who covers his sins will not prosper but he who confesses and forsakes them will have mercy. (God delivers us from our enemies, not our friends of lust for example. Hate the sin as God hates it.)

Prov 28:1 The righteous are bold as a lion. (not the unrighteous)

Mt 4:1-11 Jesus answered…. “It is written…” Also he says, we must LIVE (all inclusive) by every word (Rhema) that comes from the mouth of God. (In sync with Him/His Universe) Think, speak and act the word of God like Prince says.

Mt 16:24-25 Deny yourself, take up your cross and follow Jesus…(lose your soul in order to find it)

*Jn 7:38-39 The Holy Spirit causes rivers of living water to flow out of a believer’s life (in context of continuous obedience.

Jn 8:36 If the son makes you free you shall be free indeed.

Acts 17:30 All are required to repent laying down our rebellion

Rom 1:4 The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of HOLINESS

Heb 12:14 Strive for peace with everyone and holiness, without which, no one will see the Lord

*James 4:7-8 Submit to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw close to God…He will draw close to you.

*1 Pet 1:2 Our protection depends on meeting God’s condition…obedience just like in Ex 12:22 where Passover depended on obedience, “Stay inside the house!” The blood of Jesus doesn’t protect those who continue in disobedience

1 Pet 1:16 Be holy as I’m holy.

1 Jn 1:7 If we continually walk in the light…it’s a major condition for the promises to be continually fulfilled; fellowship with believers and cleansing blood of Jesus.

James 3:2 The control of the tongue is the mark of spiritual maturity.

James 4:3 Sometimes you don’t get what you pray for because you ask with wrong motives

1 Pet 3:7 If there is not harmony between husband and wife, the husband’s prayers will be hindered

Phil 3:12 Not that I have already attained perfection, but I press on

Col 3:3, 5 Put to death your old man and keep him dead, then put on the new man Eph 4:24

1 Cor 11:1 Imitate Paul as he imitates Christ.

Gal 5:16-17 Live by the Spirit, not by the desires of the sinful nature (sometimes translated flesh).

Lessons in Deliverance Ministry

Mk 5:8-13 Jesus’s ministry against demons...legion…2000 pigs to their death in the Lake…demons are self-aware

Mk 1:21-28 Jesus dealt with the demon, not the man. Jesus expelled the demon from the man not the man from the synagogue

Lk 4:40-41 Jesus laid hands onsick and demon possessed healed and delivered.

2 Cor 5:7 We walk by faith, not by sight…that certainly describes a ministry of deliverance too!

1 Cor 12:8, 10 Two supernatural gifts here; word of knowledge and discerning of spirits are helpful gifts in a healing/expelling demons operation

1 Cor 9:26 I do not fight like a man beating the air aimlessly but with purpose.

Mk 9:17-29 Healing of sickness caused by demons. This epilepsy caused by demons. Jesus casts out demon from afflicted child by confronting it as a dumb/mute and deaf spirit. “This kind comes out only by prayer and fasting.” (some are harder to expel than others, here because of the kind of demon and perhaps other times because of the person being a strategic battle ground) Jesus highlights lack of FAITH as the hindrance vs19…and FAITH as the key vs 22 which is achieved by prayer and fasting vs 29.

Mt 6:16 When you fast, (not if you fast) there is no further reward if you fast for the audience of men…that’s the only reward you get. When done properly, fasting DOES have plenty other rewards.

1 Jn 5:18-19 Christ’s people are protected when living in righteousness but a practicer of sin opens the door to Satan’s influence

Deut 18:10-12 Divination or sorcery or witchcraft or medium or spiritists are detestable to the Lord

Dan 10:13-20 Michael, an archangel (a chief prince of heaven) joined the fight against the (evil) prince of Persia to help an angel get to Daniel. The fight started when Daniel began fasting and praying 21 days earlier, humbling himself, praying for understanding. The same angel would then leave and continue the fight left with Michael against the prince of Persia before moving to a fight against the (evil) prince of Greece. We see here battles in the heavenlies that heavenly angels participate in for our sake. They can be long and difficult battles, requiring the cooperation of angels in the battle…warring angels are a big part of the picture in the spiritual universe.

Ps 91:11-12 Angels protect us according to the Lord’s command

Mk 9:38-42 Someone not part of Jesus’s group of disciples was casting out demons in Jesus name. John was concerned but Jesus wasn’t. “Don’t stop him,” He said. “He who is not against us is for us.” He also said, “ No one who performs a miracle in my name will soon be able to speak evil of me.” Put’s church denominations and pope’s lines of authority into a different perspective than some have when they thing of being under authority.

Jer 6:14 Example of our society’s superficial views of healing, missing the spiritual

Acts 10 Gentiles speak in tongues…not because they were perfect yet! God doesn’t need us perfect to be His children or to use us or to receive a supernatural gift…He needs us submitted as children of God.

2 Tim 3:7 Some are always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of truth…they have no awe of God nor Spiritual consciousness to make all the learning mean anything practical so that God’s Kingdom would come and His will be done here on earth as it is in Heaven! (These types need to be challenged but not allowed to consume our time and certainly not allowed to have authority in our lives.)

Prayer and Fasting

Mk 16:15-16 He who believes AND is baptized will be saved. Not an option that follows salvation…baptism is an outward act of obedience expressing the inward work of faith in our hearts thus making salvation complete. (Somewhat like sex consummates or completes marriage) A person who has believed but has not been baptized has been incompletelysaved. It is only completesalvation that grants us the legal right to be free from demonic oppression…not only saved butseparatedfrom the world having passed through the water out of Satan’s kingdom into God’s kingdom. (T.S.E.D. p236)  That legal right can be lived out for freedom or through welcoming sin and not being controlled by the Holy Spirit, we can choose demonic oppression instead, even though we have the legal right to freedom.

**Mk 16:15-18 Great commission goes international, in my name they shall cast out demons, etc. lay hands on sick and they will get well

Lk 4:1, 14 Jesus entered his conflict with Satan ‘filled’ with the Holy Spirit but he came out of it in the ‘power’ of the Holy Spirit. God released the power of the HS through us only in the measure that we are victorious in our conflict with Satan. Spiritual conflict is not the evidence of failure but rather an essential condition for fruitful ministry.

Lk 4:1-13 Devil’s temptation of Jesus

Lk 4:13 The devil waits for opportune times to tempt us…obviously looking for a time we might be weak. He came to Jesus when He was weak at the end of a 40 day fast. Thankfully Jesus was strong in Spirit even if hungry in body.

Lk 4:16-21 Jesus quotes Isaiah-The Spirit of the Lord has anointed[selected and empowered/equipped] me to bring Good News to the poor.He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free and that the time of the Lord’s favour has come NLT See also Acts 10:37-38

Lk 4:40-41 Jesus laid hands onsick and demon possessed healed and delivered.

Lk 6:46 Jesus asks why people call him Lord and not obey him?

Lk 7:7-10 Italian with great faith knew about authority. When we are truly submitted under the authority of Jesus, He gives us authority. Living unsubmitted to Him is to lack authority.

Lk 8:27-33 Jesus asked demon, “What is your name?"  "Legion...Don’t send us to the abyss” the demons plea. One man contained enough demons to send 2000 pigs over a cliff. They like to work in gangs.

***Lk 10:1-20 Disciples reporting back that ‘Even the demons are subject to us in your name.’ “I give you authority to trample over serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy and nothing shall by any means hurt you,” says Jesus

Jn 17:17 Jesus says to His Father, "Your word is truth."

Acts 19:5 Baptized immediately upon hearing and believing

Acts 19:11-17 Seven sons of Sceva (who didn’t know Jesus) try casting out a demon “in the name of the Jesus Paul preaches,” but the demon beats them up. The state of the ministeris much more important than the formula! Also, note Paul’s distance deliverance/healing ministry via hanker-chiefs.

2 Cor 4:4 The god of this age (or god of this world) has blinded the eyes from knowing the glory of Christ is the exact likeness of God

2 Cor 5:7 We walk by faith, not by sight…that certainly describes a ministry of deliverance too!

2 Cor 6:17-18 Be holy/separate as a son or daughter of God…

2 Cor 7:1 “Let us cleanse ourselves…” by confessing, repenting…we are responsible to our part in the cleansing process.

2 Cor 7:5 Paul’s struggles with fear…even a great apostle deal with fear.

*2 Cor 10:4-5 Our weapons are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strong holds, arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God…controlling every thought to obey Christ.

*2 Cor 11:3 Paul expresses concern that Christians can be corrupted by different spirits, another Jesus, another gospel.

2Cor 11:14 Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light

2 Cor 12:2-4 Where God dwells…Paul, whether in the body or out of it, he saw the third heaven and heard things he can’t tell. Sometimes God does things we don’t fully understand be we don’t need to. He’s bigger than us!

Gal 5:16-17 Live by the Spirit, not by the desires of the sinful nature (sometimes translated flesh).

Gal 5:19-21, 24 Works of flesh are crucified by those in Christ

Eph 1:22-23 Christ is head of the church, his body.

Eph 4:24 Let the new man come to life in Christ in complete spiritual health who is then very strong against demonic attacks but NOT immune to them as if the attacks can’t happen. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.

Eph 4:26-27 Don’t give the devil a foothold. Anger is one way to do so, so don’t let the sun go down on your anger.

*Eph 5:18 Be not drunk with wine but continually filled with the Holy Spirit. (Prince points out that most Christians would agree being drunk is wrong but how many would agree that not being filled with the Holy Spirit is wrong?) Staying filled leaves no room for demonic spirits!

Eph 6:12 Principalities and powers, rulers and authorities (dwell in the heavenlies, not just earthbound)

Eph 6:11-18 Put on the whole armour of God that we can stand against the devil. (Truth, righteousness, gospel, faith, salvation, God’s voice or rhema, all prayer-our intercontinental missile)

Phil 3:12 Not that I have already attained perfection, but I press on

Phil 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me! COUNTER FODDER

Col 2:11-12 God uses baptism to have affect REAL effect against sin in our lives by the cutting off of the carnal nature.
